Both of my parents lived in their homes for many years. When their health and mobility began to decline, my siblings and I stepped in to help them transition to long‑term care. What we assumed would be a simple, straightforward process quickly became overwhelming.

The most challenging chapter came when my mother was diagnosed with dementia. My sisters and I became her advocates — making sure she was safe, treated with dignity, and receiving the care she deserved.

She grew up during WWII and held tightly to the belief that you save everything so you’re prepared for anything. Over her lifetime, she lovingly preserved belongings, family heirlooms, and treasured antiques passed down through generations — each piece carrying its own story.

So when the time came to help her leave her home, the task wasn’t just logistical. We were facing decades of memories.

For months we sorted, organized, researched, coordinated, and tried to make the best decisions. Getting her affairs in order became a time‑consuming labor of love. We did everything we could while balancing our careers and caring for our own families — not realizing there were professionals and trusted resources who could have guided us through the journey.
